Description

The question (remained of determining the control ?) of certain independent territories which formed a part of the colony. It was necessary (to discuss ?) with Washington (the disposal ?) of war materials bought in the United States and allowed to pass through the British blockade. The struggle by our forces on land, on sea and in the air could no longer continue, and the government was forced to accept the authority of Japan in January 1941.

Our yielding did nothing but encourage (Japan in her demands ?). By spring, feelings were at such a pitch in the territories that a general conflict threatened. As a result, on July 14, Japan demanded that we ---------.

The plan which Admiral Leahy took to France to discuss with Admiral Darlan suggested that our government "stall for time", proving once more that Washington had decided to keep out of (the dispute ?). Thus, cast on our own resources, (we had to submit ?). ------if we had refused to come to a decision concerning our ability to resist, orders would have been given to land troops in Indo-China before the end of the month.
