Referring to my telegram No. 284. From
the report of M. Querin:
(1) The 12 passengers and 28 men from the
Indiana and the Nemur have been placed in one of
the Batteries of the fort. The only ones allowed
to go to the consulate were the captain of the
first ship who was set free, and the captain of
the second ship who was accompanied by an American.
(2) The American flag was raised over both ships.
(3) Officials have requested the Colonel in
charge of the marines that the boats be sent to New
York.

The Indiana and the Nemur were sent to sea
to-day on the order of the American authorities.....
